Washburn, Wisconsin · a course above Chequamegon Bay
There is nothing else like this in the area. An 18 hole course sits minutes from Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands, and Bayfield. It is built on 9 shared fairways with two greens per hole, so the front nine and the back nine feel like two different rounds on the same ground.
The 60 acre property includes a clubhouse overlooking Chequamegon Bay, 18 golf carts, mowing equipment, and a full irrigation system. Dale and Donnalee Brevak have owned the land since 1999. They built the course themselves and opened it in 2010.
Dale bought the 60 acres on a land contract from his sister. His father had bought the farm in the 1960s. They hired an architect, moved the dirt themselves, and built a double nine executive course so two people can mow the greens in about an hour and ten minutes. Donnalee says people who play the second nine are surprised it feels like a different course.
